The Youth Advisory Board is a youth-led group that shares ideas, feedback, and lived perspective to help Mental HERO better support young people. Members do not have legal or fiduciary responsibility; they serve in an advisory role only, helping shape ideas, events, outreach, and youth-focused resources. They may attend meetings, review materials, give feedback on programs, and help represent youth voices in a respectful and responsible way.

Requirements:

• Must have a genuine interest in mental health awareness, advocacy, education, or youth leadership.

• Must be willing to attend regular meetings and participate consistently.

• Must be open to collaboration, respectful discussion, and receiving feedback.

• Must represent themselves honestly and uphold Mental HERO’s values and code of conduct.

• Should be willing to share ideas based on youth perspective and community needs.

• May be asked to complete an application and short interview process.

• Diverse lived experiences and backgrounds are encouraged to help the board reflect the community it serves.

• Ages between 13-18

The Adult Advisory Board is made up of adults who provide guidance, experience, and strategic insight to support Mental HERO’s mission. Members do not have legal or fiduciary responsibility unless you separately designate them as part of a formal governing board; in this advisory role, they do not make binding decisions or manage legal obligations for the organization. They may help with planning, mentorship, partnerships, fundraising ideas, community outreach, and general organizational guidance.

Requirements:

• Must be at least 18 years old.

• Must support the mission and values of Mental HERO.

• Must be willing to attend meetings on a regular basis and contribute thoughtfully.

• Must demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and respectful communication.

• Should bring useful experience, insight, leadership, advocacy, education, mental health awareness, nonprofit knowledge, or other relevant expertise.

• Must avoid conflicts of interest or disclose them when relevant.

• Must follow Mental HERO’s policies, confidentiality expectations, and ethical standards.

• May be asked to assist with mentorship, outreach, partnerships, strategy, or program feedback.

• May be required to complete an application, interview, and onboarding process.

Standard Volunteers help with day-to-day support tasks that keep Mental HERO running smoothly. They do not have legal or fiduciary responsibility and are not expected to make policy decisions; instead, they assist with tasks like event support, outreach, content help, administrative assistance, or community engagement. Volunteers are expected to follow instructions, communicate clearly, and represent Mental HERO respectfully while helping where needed.

Requirements:

• Must support the mission of Mental HERO and agree to serve respectfully.

• Must be dependable and able to communicate clearly about availability.

• Must follow volunteer instructions, organizational policies, and safety expectations.

• Must act respectfully toward team members, community members, and program participants.

• Must complete any required orientation or training before beginning service.

• Must perform assigned tasks responsibly and within the scope of the role.

• Must protect private or sensitive information when applicable.

• May be subject to an application, screening, reference check, or background check depending on the role.

• Must understand that volunteer opportunities, duties, and continued participation may depend on organizational needs and conduct.
